The prime minister has reportedly agreed to step down after a dramatic few days of resignations.

According to the BBC, Boris Johnson will stay on in the role until the autumn while the Conservative party elect a new leader.

The news came after more than 50 government ministers resigned in less than a week, many criticising the prime minister personally.

The resignations include pensions minister Guy Opperman, city minister John Glen, and Northern Ireland secretary Brandon Lewis.

The flurry began when former chancellor Rishi Sunak and former health secretary Sajid Javid stepped down within minutes of one another on Tuesday (July 5).
