UK fintech funding cools to £1.1bn in H1 2026

A report by Tracxn found that the decline was largely attributable to a slowdown in late-stage funding (Source: UKTN)

UK fintech businesses secured $1.5 billion (£1.1 billion) in investment during the first half of 2026, representing a 35% decrease compared with the second half of 2025 and a 26% decline from the same period a year earlier, based on figures published by Tracxn Technologies.

The data suggests that the overall slowdown was concentrated in larger, later-stage investment rounds. By contrast, funding for early-stage and seed businesses remained comparatively resilient, indicating that investor confidence in emerging fintech firms has continued despite greater caution towards more established scale-ups.

Investment into late-stage fintech companies totalled $830 million (£621 million) during H1 2026, a fall of 45% compared with both H2 2025 and H1 2025, when funding reached $1.5 billion (£1.1 billion). This reduction accounted for the majority of the overall decline in funding across the sector.

Early-stage investment reached $562 million (£420 million). Although this represented a 26% decrease from the previous six months, it remained 27% higher than the level recorded in the first half of 2025. Seed-stage companies attracted $145 million (£108 million), almost doubling compared with H2 2025 while remaining broadly in line with the same period last year.

Despite the softer investment environment, the number of large funding rounds remained relatively stable. During H1 2026, six fintech companies completed funding rounds of $100 million (£74.8 million) or more, compared with five in each of the previous two half-year periods. Among the largest deals was Paymentology’s Series A raise of $175 million (£131 million).
