If financial advisers and their clients really want to rise to the challenges posed by climate change and make a real impact with their investments, writes Jake Wombwell-Povey, products exist that can genuinely enable them to do so.

Highlighting a special report written last month for the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which warned there were only about 12 years left to ensure global warming is kept to a maximum of 1.5C, a Guardian editorial began: “Global warming is a crisis for civilisation and a crisis for life on Earth.”

The piece went on to note human-caused climate change was behind 15 deadly weather disasters in 2017. A few weeks later, a BBC article discussed how, in 2018, 10 climate change-induced events cost more than $1bn (£780m) each, with four costing more than $7bn each. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, meanwhile, 20 of the warmest years on record have taken place in the past 22 years.
