Retired couple say they felt pressured to sign up for high-risk scheme that lost them £150,000

A retired couple have complained to the investment giant St James’s Place about a financial adviser who went in to a bank branch with them to ensure that they invested in a high-risk scheme that lost them £158,000.

Liz Gillan, 72 and Uel Gillan, 73, believe they have lost more than half of the £300,000 they put into an Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) on the recommendation of their SJP adviser in 2015. The scheme, which had significant tax advantages, invested in high-risk projects, including renewable energy operations in Italy.
