Speaking on 20 May at the GSAM Media Day, Matt Gibson, head of the Client Solutions Group, highlighted the surging demand for access to private markets.
Echoing this sentiment, Bryon Lake, chief transformation officer for the Client Solutions Group at GSAM, emphasized that the convergence of public and private investing has become “a major theme,” driven by growing interest in ‘evergreen’ products designed to bridge the gap between the two markets and withstand short-term market fluctuations.
Lake suggested that terms like “public” and “private” may disappear, replaced by simply “great companies or great credit.” He sees evergreen vehicles as key to expanding retail access to alternatives, where institutional investors already allocate 20%. GSAM has launched 14 active ETFs this year and plans more.
