A recent study conducted by St James’s Place Financial Adviser Academy and hiring platform Indeed surveyed over 4,000 individuals, revealing that nearly 25% of UK workers are dissatisfied with their current employment. Furthermore, approximately one-third of the respondents intend to pursue a career change within the next year.
Gee Foottit, Partnerships Manager at St James’s Place Financial Adviser Academy, highlighted that despite numerous career opportunities available, a lack of awareness and self-confidence hinders many from making a career switch. To address this, the Academy is collaborating with Indeed to spotlight lesser-known career paths that align with people’s desires.
Foottit noted that only 4% of individuals have considered a career in financial advice, despite its flexible work arrangements, competitive earnings, and meaningful impact. This limited awareness contributes to a growing talent gap in the sector, which the Academy aims to bridge.
The research also examined the ‘best careers you’ve never considered,’ identifying roles such as senior paraplanner and finance systems analyst, considered by only 9% and 3% of workers, respectively.
Jack Kennedy, Senior Economist at Indeed, added that the millions of job searches conducted on the Indeed UK site each month provide valuable insights into worker preferences and trends.
